The US Department of Energy (DOE) announced on December 10th that it will invest a total of $17 million in 14 projects across the United States, aimed at strengthening US energy security and supply chains. The US Department of Energy states that supporting small-scale demonstrations of critical materials, including lithium, nickel, cobalt, rare earth elements, platinum group metals, silicon carbide, copper, and graphite, will help reduce innovation risks in critical materials and accelerate their commercial readiness and adoption. These projects span across 11 states and will strengthen and simplify the manufacturing of high impact components and technologies, such as hydrogen fuel cells, high-efficiency motor magnets, high-performance lithium-ion batteries, and high-yield, low defect power electronic devices.
